University College London

The study, carried out by the University College London and published in the journal Addiction, found that smokers spend an average of £1,200 a year on cigarettes and tobacco products.

That’s the equivalent of a holiday abroad, a new car and around four Flatscreen HD televisions.  However, the study goes on to state that people who use nicotine replacement therapies such as gums, patches, and oral sprays only spend an estimated £523 a year on keeping their cravings at bay, with an annual saving of £680 compared to cigarettes.  

Whilst these savings are impressive, they are not quite matched by the savings that can be enjoyed by switching to e-cigarettes. Those who choose to vape as their method of smoking cessation or nicotine replacement are reported to save around £780 per year, which in turn is an estimated saving of £15 a week. 

Cancer Research UK

Cancer Research UK’s tobacco control manager Kruti Shrotri stated that ”quitting smoking is the single best thing a smoker can do for their health. And e-cigarettes are one of the many tools that can help. We need more research to determine the long-term effects, but studies so far have shown that e-cigarettes are less harmful than tobacco. With a more affordable price tag, it’s an alternative option for smokers looking to quit and make savings.”
